Historical Character Tim Magill

Tim Magill

Tim Magill is known for many things ranging from one of the fastest ski racers in the world to living in his grandfather’s mining chain high on Hahns Peak. He is my neighbor, fellow artisan, and friend. Tim has a reputation for being a great hunter and has made his own leather clothing and tools from his autumn harvest of deer, elk and moose. He lives high on Hahns Peak, CO, which is known  is known not only for gold and silver mining, but quartz and crystals as well. Tim lives in an old mining cabin surrounded by hillsides of these metals and quartz, National forest and pristine slopes used in the winter by many recreational users. The Friends of the Routt Backcountry, a Colorado Mountain Club chapter, has been working for 20 years to try and project this area as a winter non-motorized use area for skiers and snowshoers to enjoy. Tim has been supportive of these efforts and has helped to donate to our cause in many ways.

This watercolor painting captures the character of the Tim Magill that I have come to know and appreciate.
