Autumn in North Routt
Autumns in North Routt mean to me, wandering in the forest with my husband while he hunts grouse, collecting roots and herbs for my tinctures and salves or paddling my canoe on nearby lakes one last time.
This painting evolved from a day in our autumn, wandering in the forest below Iron Mountain. I collected many dried ferns and fallen aspen leaves and incorporated them into this painting. This area is frequented by sheepherders and their flocks of sheep in the summers. Many of these aspen trees have sheepherder carvings in them. Find the arbor-glyph in this painting.
